PART
1 GENERAL
1.1
DESCRIPTION
To
the greatest extent possible, in order to install products
with minimal environmental impact, this project will use
non-plastic photo-luminescent type exit signs in both high
and low locations. Plastic exit signs
[photo-luminescent or otherwise] have adverse environmental
consequences and should be avoided. In those areas
where photo-luminescent exit signs can not be used,
non-plastic LED type exit signs will be used.
Radioactive tritium exit signs are expressly prohibited.
Photo-luminescent exit signs are charged from nearby
artificial lighting sources and therefore the facility
lighting plan must be designed, installed and tested to
properly illuminate the PL exit signs. This
Section specifies the engineering, procurement, installation
and testing of photo-luminescent [PL] exit signage for high
and low level applications inside rooms, hallways,
corridors, lobbies, parking garages and other areas.
